The Crystal Man

Sherborne looked at its very best last Sunday with over 90 twinkling Christmas trees up and down the Town – even though it rained a tiny bit, everyone stayed to see the steam traction engines, the choirs and the bands.  But the highlight for some was The Crystal Man who tried to sneak under the umbrellas of unsuspecting shoppers! The farmers’ market was a-buzz and the cafes were full to bursting. This was all organised by the Sherborne Chamber of Trade with a little help from a few friends…

Last week Joanne and Nickie were all dressed up…. with somewhere to go….the Guild of Beer Writers’ dinner with Rick and David from Hall & Woodhouse, where Pete Brown, shown above won Beer Writer of the Year. Nickie enjoyed some really great company on her table, and she tried so many beers she had to lie down afterwards!  Joanne sat next to Les Baynton, a very nice man who writes poems about beer…….(I thought I would give it a go)……the beers were crisp, the company divine, not a vodka in sight, or even a wine, the food was delicious, they all left wanting more, but when they awoke in the morning, their heads were quite sore! (Well it’s only my first attempt!)

Castle Gardens in Sherborne held a Late Night festive shopping evening on Thursday. Entertainment was provided by the cast of the local pantomime, ‘oh no it wasn’t, oh yes it was!’ No really, it was, look at the photo! Mince pies, beautiful decorations and Father Christmas were all on hand to help create a wonderful atmosphere, along with the Mulled wine of course!
